Waste Minimisation
Reducing and minimising the waste we produce is a priority for all our sites, and one that;s central to developing sustainable methods of meat production. Each and every one of us creates waste in a different way, so it’s a responsibility that we all share.
We use lean techniques to identify areas creating most waste, and implement changes in how we re-order materials, increase recycling, and forge mutually beneficial partnerships with energy recovery companies. To date, our work has seen waste reduced by a massive 700 tonnes. That means no waste in landfill, thanks to partners finding new uses for even non-recyclable materials.
From Start to Finish
At ABP Clones, we overhauled our meat packing process from start to finish – all in the aid of reducing waste, and developing more sustainable food production. The initiative included everything from staff training, to the introduction of more durable packing, and optimising the way we operate packaging machines. The result was a huge success, with a 70% reduction in waste generation -1.5 tonnes of packaging per day – with the same processes now being rolled out across all our sites.

We’ve cut waste from our sites by a very impressive 700 tonnes – the equivalent of 200 adult elephants
640 tonnes recycled
In the last few years, ABP Ireland has sent over 640 tonnes of waste material be recycled
